Over at the Powerline Blog, Paul Mirengoff links to this piece from Fox News. It’s a story about the conflict going on betwen Hamas and Israel in the Middle East. In it, President Hope-and-Change demonstrates why he is the smartestest President, EVER.
“Israel has every right to expect that it does not have missiles fired into its territory,” President Barack Obama said at a news conference in Bangkok at the start of a three-nation visit to Asia.
“If that can be accomplished without a ramping up of military activity in Gaza, that’s preferable,” Obama said. “It’s not just preferable for the people of Gaza. It’s also preferable for Israelis, because if Israeli troops are in Gaza, they’re much more at risk of incurring fatalities or being wounded.” [empasis added]
First, let me start by congratulating the President for publically supporting Israel’s right to defend itself. I believe this is the first time he has ever supported Israel outright. In the past Obama had either given Israel backhanded compliments or been downright hostile to them. It has been so egregious that I really do think Obama just made another gaffe and accidentally took Israel’s side. Probably something wrong with the teleprompter. Anyway, it was public support to our most trusted, reliable ally in the Middle East. It took him four years but the President finally got there.
The second paragraph is where the President goes into “Captain Awesomeness Obvious” Mode. Really, Mr. President? Troops on the ground have a higher risk of being hurt or killed? Please, regale us some more with you vast knowledge of military strategy, foreign policy, and awesmome Commander-In-Cheifisms. You were able to take a difficult and complex issue, such as war can hurt people, and simplify it so even a child could understand it. Your powers of rhetroric and persuasion have never seen a finer moment. Obama’s brilliance is like a skid mark in my underwear – I just couldn’t see it until it was staring me in the face (don’t ask).
While the President was taking time out of his busy schedule to give us a complicated lesson in international conflict, Hamas continues to rain down rockets on Israel from missle sites located in Mosques and playgrounds. They have started posting fake pictures of civilian and child casualties (par the the course for them) and, of course, CNN compeletly fall for it (see previous link) because a story about the evil Jews killing innocents is just to juicy for them to acutally fact-check. I guess “professional” reports just don’t have the time for “accuracy” and “credibility”.
The Other McCain has some thoughts on the current Gaza conflict and then reflects on the 2009 Gaza ground invasion.
This isn’t goint to end well. Israel is certain to launch a ground invasion any day into Gaza. The Middle East is already in turmoil and filled with anit-western hate (see Iran, Libya, Egypt, Turkey, Syria, and Palestinian occupied territories). In the best of circumstances this war will be limited to just Gaza, but with Russia and Egypt supporting the Palestinians and the terrorist support from Iran and Syria, this could turn into something much bigger.
Brace yourselves for yet another war in the Arab world brought to you by the Relgion of Peace.
